Learning Strategies Course (GLE)

This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners.
 

Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school (including preparation for the Grade 10 EQAO Literacy test), the workplace, and the community.
 

The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond.
 

As students progress through the program the focus is geared toward preparing them to make successful transitions to work, training, and/or postsecondary education destinations.
 

Students will investigate trends and resources to support their postsecondary employment, training, and/or education.

    test-taking strategies

  • Intensive preparation for EQAO Literacy Test (OSSLT)

  • Preparing for the World of Work

  • Effective group communication

  • Conflict Resolution Strategies

Grade 11 Learning Strategies Focus:
 

  • How to yield a healthy lifestyle

  • Appraising the world of work

  • Explore community  involvement and travel

  • Investigating Post-Secondary Options

  • Managing change

  • Building a transition plan

  • Financial Literacy

Grade 12 Learning Strategies Focus:
 

  • What occupations or fields of work are suitable?

  • Skills and knowledge required for your occupational choice

  • What might life after high school look like for you?

  • How can you make a decision?

  • What is your backup plan?

  • How to implement your transition plan?
